Open Call | BMW Photography Residency at GOBELINS School of Visual Arts

BMW Art & Culture announces the launch of its ninth call for applications for the BMW Residence at GOBELINS, the school of image.

Every year since 2011, BMW Art & Culture has given an artist the opportunity to produce a photography project in a three-month residency. The project is undertaken at the GOBELINS School of Visual Arts, which has been involved in the Residency for the past two years, following a six-year partnership with the Nicéphore Niépce Museum.

The project submitted by the candidates for the BMW Residence will have to be rich in meaning, focused on innovation and experimentation to offer a renewed vision of our world in motion, by all means: technical, narrative, documentary, humorous ... 'tapping GOBELINS' resources and François Cheval's expertise.

The project must be original and exclusive for the BMW Residence and must not have been shown, even partially at the time of application, and should not be exhibited before the Rencontres d'Arles * or Paris Photo * 2020.

BMW offers the winner of the Residency at GOBELINS a grant, access to support from professionals, two exhibitions at prestigious venues, publication of a book, and support with PR.
– a grant of €8,000,
– publication of a book to be sold in bookshops and jointly published with éditions Trocadéro,
– organization of a dedicated exhibition included in the program of the Rencontres d’Arles and Paris Photo events (included in the allocated budget depending on the exhibition venue),
– a set of prints of exhibited photographs.
– support from the artistic director, François Cheval.

The BMW Residency will take place between September and December 2019.
